Nose Fillers

Spider Vessels

An important manifestation of skin aging is the appearance of dilated blood vessels in the skin. Small, red coloured blood vessels are called telangiectasia whereas visible small blue coloured blood vessels are called venulectasia. They are less than 1mm in diameter.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation problems result from an increase in melanin in the epidermis, dermis or both. This can be due to an increase in melanin production by the melanocytes or an increase in the number of melanocytes.

Nose fillers are a popular, non-surgical way to augment and sculpt your nose shape.

Common indications for nose filler augmentation include:
  1. Deficient, flat and underprojected nose bridge
  2. Crooked or hook shaped nose bridge
  3. Bulbous and round nose tip

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are injected either via a fine needle or cannula to volumize and raise the height of the nose bridge. Deformities or irregular shaped nose bridges can also be corrected and straightened with filler injection. Hyaluronic acid nose fillers last for a duration range of 6 months to 2 years depending on the type of hyaluronic acid filler injected.

What to expect during the procedure

Filler injection is a relatively fast procedure which involves:

  • Prenumbing of the treatment area for 15-20 min
  • Cleansing and disinfection of the treatment area
  • Filler procedure done by doctor (usually takes 10-15 min)
  • Post injection application of antibiotic ointment

What to expect after the procedure

  • Sensation of fullness and stretching is normal
  • Possibility of bruising which may take 5-7 days to resolve
  • Needle marks at injection points which take 2-3 days to heal
  • Slight swelling of the nose due to water retention from the hyaluronic acid which will slowly subside over 1 week
  • Possibility of lumpiness of the injected filler which will smoothen out and integrate better over 1-2 weeks with appropriate molding.

Rare but serious complications

  • Filler injected into blood vessel causing blockage and tissue necrosis
  • Infection

It is important to note that in event of complications or undesirable result, hyaluronic acid fillers are a safer option compared to other types of fillers because hyaluronic acid can be immediately dissolved by injection of hyaluronidase (an enzyme that digests hyaluronic acid) which prevents side effects/complications from getting worse. In comparison, other materials used for nose augmentation is not possible to dissolve and may need surgical intervention.

Nose filler vs Nose threadlift

Pros:
  • Able to create more volume which is important for flat nose bridges with poor structural support
  • Able to target and correct specific deformities
  • Readily reversible in event of undesirable outcome or side effects

Cons:
  • Tends to spread sideways slightly which may result in broader nose bridge
  • Unable to modify nose tip shape by a large degree
  • Risk of vascular compromise
