Skin Boosters Treatment: Pre-Care and Aftercare

As we age, signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles will usually start to show. Fortunately, advancements in aesthetic medicine offer a wide range of treatments to address these concerns and promote a more youthful appearance.

Skin boosters involve the injection of hyaluronic acid into the skin. It helps increase the level of skin hydration and produces collagen and elastin to restore radiant, healthy and younger-looking skin. Skin booster treatments can be used on the face and other parts of the body such as the neck, décolletage, and hands.

Preparing for a Skin Booster Treatment

Before undergoing a skin booster treatment, you should first consult a doctor, who will assess your skin’s condition and provide pre-care and aftercare instructions for optimal results.

Here are some dos and don’ts to follow to prepare for a skin booster treatment:

Dos:

  • Make sure that you tell your doctor beforehand about any medications you take so that they can take extra precautions.
  • Reschedule your appointment if you have been unwell or developed an infection, rash or any acute inflammation in the area to be treated before your skin booster appointment.
  • Cleanse your face and do not wear makeup during your appointment.

Don’ts:

  • To minimise the risk of bruising, one should generally avoid taking blood-thinning medications unless specified by your doctor.
  • Refrain from using harsh skincare products and undergoing other cosmetic procedures for at least a week before and after your treatment.
  • To reduce the risk of bleeding, abstain from heavy alcohol consumption for 24 hours before your procedure.

Taking Care of Your Skin After Treatment

After the treatment, proper aftercare is important to maximise the benefits and minimise any potential side effects. This may involve:

  • Managing Discomfort: Over-the-counter pain medications may be taken to address temporary discomfort.
  • Hydrating Your Skin: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and promote healing.
  • Minimising Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sunlight and protect your skin with sunscreen. Additionally, steer clear of environments with extreme heat, such as saunas.
  • Reducing Swelling: Apply a cool compress (wrapped in a towel) to the treated area to minimise swelling and discomfort. Never apply ice directly to the skin.
  • Preventing Infection: Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area.
  • Avoiding Makeup: Allow your skin to breathe by avoiding makeup for at least 12 hours after the procedure.
  • Skipping Facials and Other Procedures: Wait two weeks before getting facials, waxing, or massages on the treated area.
  • Monitoring: Keep an eye on the treated area and contact your doctor if you experience any concerning symptoms.

Skin booster treatments offer a safe and effective solution for rejuvenating the skin and addressing signs of aging. With the help of an accredited aesthetic doctor and proper adherence to pre-care and aftercare instructions, patients can achieve smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin.
